Mavis Odell Nooner

Mavis Odell Nooner

Born on April 5,1937 to her parents Neil and Pearl (Allen) Hodge in their home in Brownsville, Mississippi, Mavis was the 2nd of four children in the family.

Mavis lived a life that was never easy but always blessed.

She began her walk with the Lord after her Uncle Woodrow and Aunt Edna Hodge would pick her up for church.

She fell in love and married at the age of 20 on Aug 3rd, 1957.

She was a devoted wife to Oscar Nooner for 63 years until his passing. Together they built a home for their family in Walnut Mississippi where she was a faithful member of Jesus Name Community Church until 2011 when Lepanto, Arkansas became their home. With this move, came the change of her home church to Revival Center Church in Lepanto.

She was the primary caregiver for her 7 children, as Oscar was away from home during the majority of their childhood, working to provide. She took on the task with determination to do her best and make the most of what had been allotted to her family.

For many years, she, along with her 7 children, worked from sun up to sun down and then did some tilling in a garden large enough to feed an army. She canned more food than could stock the closest Shop-Easy Supermarket shelves.

Her happiest moments were when the sounds of laughter filled her home. If her home was full, so was the stovetop. She could almost always be found sitting at her counter mixing up something tasty to fill a belly. Her family is still attempting to replicate her famous banana pudding…. No one can make it exactly like MawMaw’s.

While Mavis was not the quietest of ladies here on earth, the sound of her voice bombarding heaven on behalf of those she loved was truly treasured and can never be replaced.

Mavis was preceded in death by her parents, 3 siblings, her husband Oscar, one son-in-law: Ronnie Cartwright Sr. and two grandsons Matthew Vanya and Stephen Scyoc.

Mavis is survived by her three daughters: Liz Gray (Peter) of Paris, Texas, Rebecca Cartwright of Middleton, TN and Burlene Carrizales (Hector) of McAllen, Texas, and four sons: Ray Nooner (Beckie) of Walnut, Mississippi, Phillip Nooner (Cindy) of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Paul Nooner (Paula) of Corinth, Mississippi and Daniel Nooner (Emily) of Lepanto, Arkansas, nineteen grandchildren: Annette Scott (Tommy), Joanna McQueen (Chad), Marissa Nooner (fiancé Darren), Karissa Nooner (fiancé Leandro), Alyssa Nooner, Michael Nooner (Crystal), Katrina Bishop (Michael), Nathaniel Nooner (Brittney), Jessica Nooner, Jennifer Scyoc, Cole Nooner (Sarah), Mia Bateman (Jacob), Lauren Nooner, Hector Carrizales II, Sarah Carrizales, Deborah Carrizales, Isaac Carrizales, Bethany Carrizales and Hannah Carrizales and twenty-four great grandchildren: Katie, John, Andy, Kayla, Ashton (Kenzie), Cayden, Jaxon, Pete, Elliott, Serafina, Aiden, Phillip, Nora, Caleb, Thea Grace, Ella Rose, Amelia Rae, Marshall, Willow, Aliza, Lauriana, Elijah and Moriah.

MawMaw Nooner was always surrounded by familiar faces of those who loved her their whole life long and continues to be so, as she is now reunited with her beloved Oscar and first true love, Jesus Christ.
