Jerry Neal "Freck" Barnes

Jerry Neal ‘Freck’ Barnes, 81, of Jonesboro, AR, formerly of Dyess, AR, went to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, January 23, 2022.

Mr. Barnes served in the National Guard and was a retired member of the engineering department for the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department. Mr. Barnes was a member of Highland Drive Baptist Church of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and served as a Decon at HDBC and Central Baptist of Dyess. Mr. Barnes also served as a board member for the South Mississippi County School District for several years including his time as President of the South Mississippi County School Board.

Mr. Barnes was born on October 17, 1940, in Dyess, Arkansas, to John Sharp Barnes and Alva Etta Barnes. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Sharp Barnes and Alva Etta Barnes, four brothers John Barnes, William Barnes, LK Barnes, Wayne Barnes, and six sisters, Janie Wooten, Nola Phillips, Arlene Pickens, Betty Wise, Louise Walton, and Hazel Noblin. Mr. Barnes was a loving, devoted husband and father. He is survived by his wife Brenda Barnes of Jonesboro, AR, one brother, Jimmy Barnes of Foley, AL, two daughters Tracey (Randy) Smith, of Jonesboro, AR, and Sherry (Melvin) Mason of Manila, AR, four grandchildren Samantha (Trent) Ramsdell of Jonesboro, AR, Josh (Chelsey) Smith of Jonesboro, AR, Megan (Grant) Howe of Paragould, AR, and Madison Mason of Manila, AR, and one great-grandchild, Charlotte Howe.

Visitation will be held Thursday, January 27, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. at Delancey Funeral Home in Lepanto, AR, with the funeral immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Potters Cemetery in Lepanto, AR. Flowers and memorials may be sent to Delancey Funeral Home in Lepanto, AR. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for any memorial contributions to go to the Highland Drive Baptist Church of Jonesboro at 515 E. Highland Drive, Jonesboro, AR. 72401.
