Barbara Joan Walker

November 26, 1930 — June 17, 2021

Barbara Joan Walker, 90 of Marked Tree, Arkansas departed this life on Thursday, June 17, 2021. Joan, known as Nanny, love of life did not come to an end with her death.  She was born to John and Mary Elizabeth Tinnen Wright in Manila, Arkansas on November 26, 1930.  She was the youngest of seven children.

Joan was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Marked Tree, Arkansas, the  Marked Tree PTA, Marked Tree Garden Club, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and Brownie troop leader, served as Deputy County Clerk and Probate Clerk for Poinsett County. She was recruited by the Marked Tree High School Coach, Kohn Bray,  for her athletic skills.  She joined the Marked Tree basketball team and was a key contributor helping her team win the Arkansas All State Basketball Team Award in 1949.

She is preceded in death by her husband of forty-five years: Ralph Walker, her parents, first grandchild: Molly Elizabeth Grojean and six siblings.

Joan is survived by four children: Ralph L. Walker, Jr. (Donna) of Nashville, Tennessee, Carla Jennings (Johnny) of Lepanto, Arkansas, Connie Roberts (Marty) of Horseshoe Bend, Arkansas, Mary Aycock (Joe) of Little Rock, Arkansas, the proud grandmother of three grandchildren: Kelly Grojean, Jr., Madilyn Paisley, Walker Dyer and five great grandchildren that she treasured sharing fun times with.

Barbara Joan Walker will be honored at a Celebration of Life service at the First  United Methodist Church in Marked Tree, Arkansas on Wednesday, June 23, 2021 at 6:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the Walker family would greatly appreciate donations to the American Cancer Society in her memory.
